On 4 October 1599, Andrei Báthory asks Michael the Brave to leave the throne of Wallachia. Surprised by the whole strategy prepared by Mihai, Andrei Báthory finds himself besieged and his army on the defensive, with the walls of Sibiu behind him as a refuge in case of failure. The Battle of Șelimbăr (28 October) was hardly won by Michael the Brave and only when he fought personally to motivate his army.
